Our story

I grew up on this beautiful place we now call Hardscrabble Hollow, nestled right next to my grandparents’ farm, and I have the best childhood memories of my time spent with Grandpa and Grandma. They were homesteaders before “homesteading” was cool: Cutting wood for their wood stove, canning food from their garden, gathering black walnuts for baking, and on and on. Through all the time spent with them, they passed on the love of their farm to me.

After my husband, Todd, joined our family, he affectionately nicknamed this homestead “The Village,” and we raised our children (Rileigh, Connor, and Carson) surrounded by the love of grandparents and great-grandparents. We have added a son-in-law, and our granddaughter, Hayden, has recently joined our family, making this five generations enjoying this little spot in Jones County, Iowa.

I felt driven to share with others the beauty of this place so dear to me, and that is how Hardscrabble Hollow started–sharing the flowers that we grow right here in rural Monticello. We look forward to getting to know you, our customers, as we share Hardscrabble Hollow with you.
